DuckDuckGo has impressive growth but is still a long way from threatening Google

The DuckDuckGo search engine, with its declared enhanced protection of user privacy, has moved to a new level this year: the number of daily search queries processed by the platform has surpassed 100 million, which is approximately 47% more than in 2020 .

According to Bleeping Computer, despite Google's total dominance in the search business, more and more people are interested in trying alternative solutions that offer better privacy protection.

It is known that in 2020 DuckDuckGo processed 79 million daily searches in December on average, and 23.6 billion searches were made by users throughout the year. In 2021, the company had already counted 34.6 billion requests before the end of the reporting period. The DuckDuckGo team also grew by 46.4%.

However, statistics indicate that the system's market share is still very small. Despite accelerated growth rates, the search engine still lags behind its main competitors, occupying 2.53% of the market. Yahoo controls 3.3% of this segment, Bing – 6.43%. Google accounts for 87.33% of all search traffic.

According to the Tech Times source, DuckDuckGo is currently developing a desktop version of the browser, and it won't be based on the Chromium engine, but is created from scratch. In a recent blog post, CEO Gabriel Weinberg confirmed this fact.

As stated in the Spread Privacy report, the Google search engine monitors the use of its services, while DuckDuckGo “guarantees” the security of the user's information when working with the platform.

The DuckDuckGo Android app has already added email address protection from email trackers – until now, the feature is not available to all users. Also in line are those who want to activate the App Tracking function – it is available to some in beta version and protects the user of the Android ecosystem from being tracked by apps.
