VKontakte has offline video preload function

VKontakte social network now has a function to preload videos. With its help, users can watch videos offline on an airplane and in other places where there is no Internet access. The fact was reported by the company's press office.

The developers claim that videos download quickly to users' devices thanks to VKontakte's own technologies, but the download speed has not been specified. The download takes place in stages, so short-term failures don't affect it. The download will also not affect the speed of the app.

“The ability to download videos to watch them offline became a logical step in the development of the video platform. The new feature ensures uninterrupted video viewing at the highest resolution available. This is especially true on the road or traveling. In addition, watching videos without the internet is important for those who go out to celebrate the New Year in other cities and countries”, said Alexander Tobol, technical director of VKontakte.

In early October, the company launched automatic subtitles for Russian videos. For this, the company developed its own technology for text recognition based on a neural network. The function is capable of recognizing text not only from professional recordings, but also from amateur videos.
