Android 14 now available for testing

Google has recently released the latest version of the most famous mobile operating system in the world – Android 13. It has been available for some time now for the newest smartphones in the Pixel family. In addition, it is also available for select smartphones from third-party manufacturers such as Samsung, Asus, Nokia (HMD), Motorola, OnePlus, Oppo, Sony and Xiaomi.

Since the new Android 13 has been available for a long time, Google programmers are already thinking about its successor. The Android 14 operating system is expected to be available as early as April this year, according to current testing plans. An initial test version of the new feature for programmers was recently offered for download. It's Android 14 Developer Preview version 1.

The most interesting novelty of the Android 14 mobile operating system is the ability to clone installed applications. In practice, this means that it will be possible to use an application associated with two user accounts. The list of apps that can be cloned will be determined by Google programmers. Mostly it will be about messaging programs.

The Android 14 operating system will also bring radical changes in the field of mobile application installation. Older apps that were prepared for older Android mobile operating systems and have not been updated will not be able to be installed. This is also valid for software that will be outside the official Google Store portal.

Google will gradually introduce mobile app installation restriction on Android 14. In the end, only apps built for Android 6 Marshmallow or higher will be able to be installed. In a few years, however, the restriction will carry over to newer Android mobile operating systems.
