Microsoft 365 Basic is just $1.99 per month and comes with a 100GB OneDrive storage option
Microsoft is launching a new subscription this month for Microsoft 365. Microsoft 365 Basic is just $1.99 per month and supplements the 100GB OneDrive storage option with additional features.
Microsoft 365 Basic will be available worldwide on January 30 with 100GB of cloud storage, an ad-free Outlook (web only), and enhanced security features like data encryption and scanning attachments for viruses and malware. Existing 100GB OneDrive storage customers will be automatically upgraded to Microsoft 365 Basic for the same monthly fee.
Microsoft 365 Basic also provides access to Microsoft technical support, including help by phone or online chat for Microsoft 365 Apps and Windows 11.
The main difference between the $6.99 per month Personal plan and the new $1.99 Basic plan is that Microsoft 365 Basic doesn't include access to the desktop versions of the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps.
The Office app for mobile and Windows will be renamed Microsoft 365 later this month.
Later this month, it will also be 10 years since Microsoft first introduced consumer subscriptions for Office. The subscription was then known as Office 365 Home Premium and included access to the Office desktop apps and 20GB of cloud storage.
