A Apple lançou uma atualização para o iPhone 5s

Electronics giant released an update for the 2013 iPhone 5s

Although new versions of the iOS operating system have not been released for the iPhone 5s for a long time - it stopped at iOS 12, the company still releases security updates for the device from time to time.

Considering the model will be ten years old soon, the update is a nice addition for anyone still using old gadgets.

The last OS update for iPhone 5s was released in 2018. However, the company continued to monitor the health of the old model and some later models. The device, which was launched in 2013, unexpectedly received a security update this week, version iOS 12.5.7.

Not much can be said about the iOS 12.5. 7 update, but it is important for those who still have older smartphones that support this software version. The fact is that Apple closed a long-standing vulnerability in the security system, thanks to which it was possible to process malicious web content and execute arbitrary code. Apple's documentation emphasizes that the vulnerability is actively exploited on devices running versions prior to iOS 15.1.

While the iPhone 5S is Apple's oldest smartphone to receive the update, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus owners can also install it. Users of the aforementioned gadgets are recommended to download the corresponding update.

As The Verge reports, Apple frequently releases updates for outdated devices. However, the appearance of a patch for a smartphone that is more than 9 years old is a kind of record. If possible, Android smartphone manufacturers try to meet the same level of support, at least partially. Samsung, Google and OnePlus are known to release security updates for five years, however, only for some flagship models of their devices. It remains to be hoped that in the future the initiative of the listed companies will be adopted by other gadget manufacturers.
