Google está lançando login sem senha para Chrome e Android

In the near future, Chrome users will not need to enter a password

Google announced that the Google Play Services beta platform and the latest browser version in the Chrome Canary test channel have added support for passkeys (passkeys), which will provide access to the company's services and, in the future, to features third-party without the need to enter a password.

Previously, the tech giants represented by Apple, Google and Microsoft, with the support of the FIDO Alliance, announced their intention to implement the ability to login without password on major platforms - a cell phone becomes its replacement. When installing the Google Play Services package that supports the new login method and Chrome desktop, the user first creates a password on the phone, certifying it with a lock code or biometrics - for later login on the phone, you just need to confirm your same way.

The lock key saved on the phone can later be used to log into a supported service on another device - a laptop or desktop. For this, both the service and the browser used on the computer must support this authentication method. To login, you need to scan the QR code generated by the browser. The key is stored on the phone or client computer and synced via cloud storage to avoid full account lockout if the phone is lost or the data on the PC is damaged.

Before the end of the year, Google promised to release API tools for third-party developers to implement passkey input in other resources - the technology support can be implemented in both Android apps and websites. The company is confident that the new authentication method will be more convenient for users than traditional means, and password entry will eventually become a thing of the past.
