TCL presented the NXTWEAR S built-in display glasses at IFA 2022. The novelty, like its predecessors NXTWEAR G and NXWEAR Air, is positioned by the Chinese manufacturer as a wearable personal display. As planned, the user thus receives a personal cinema that can be taken anywhere. You can connect the glasses to your smartphone, tablet or computer.
The TCL NXTWEAR S glasses are equipped with a pair of OLED screens, each with a Full HD resolution (1920 × 1080 pixels) and a frequency of 60 Hz. The displays support HDR10 and are capable of converting the image from SDR (standard dynamic range) to HDR (high dynamic range). It is also indicated that there are 47 pixels for each degree of angle of view (the size of the field of view is not specified).
As a result, the user gets the equivalent of a 140-inch screen in front of their head, which should provide the best possible immersion. There are several modes of operation that are best suited for watching animations, games, reading or movies. Image output is supported in sRGB, DCI-P3 and BT.2020 color spaces.
A USB Type-C cable is used to connect to the signal source. There is no wireless connection. TCL says the NXTWEAR S is compatible with the most popular Android smartphones, including models from Samsung, Huawei, OnePlus and more. Even the Microsoft Lumia 950 is mentioned, but the novelty is incompatible with the iPhone. But there is support for Mac as well as Windows and Chrome OS computers. Consoles are also supported, including the PlayStation 5.
The device only weighs around 75 grams. There are built-in speakers, supposedly with clear, high-quality sound. Of the sensors, a gyroscope, an accelerometer and a proximity sensor are declared.
TCL NXTWEAR S is scheduled to launch in Q4 2022 in "select regions". The cost has not yet been announced.
