Game producer acquires license to produce 'Lord of the Rings' franchise and 'The Hobbit' video games
Embracer Group, a company that in recent times has been dedicated to the acquisition of video game studios, announced a series of new purchases that also include the rights to the intellectual properties of 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit'.
This acquisition not only concerns the licenses to produce video games based on the work of J. R. R. Tolkien, but also for the development of “films, board games, merchandising, theme parks and stage productions”.
Engadget notes that the Embracer Group is also in charge of any Middle-earth-related literary production, provided it is duly authorized by Tolkien's heirs.
It is likely that these acquisitions will be leveraged by the Embracer Group, which means we could see more movies and games based on 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' in the future.
