AMAZON

Amazon inicia lançamento do sistema Palm Checkout

Company announced the expansion of its payment program for goods and services using customer palm prints

Amazon One announced the expansion of its payment program for goods and services using customer palm prints. This technology first appeared in 2020, but because of the pandemic it did not spread - people were afraid to touch scanners to avoid infections. After refinement, scanning is now performed without contact, just bringing your palm to the device.

It is reported that palm scanning as a payment method through Amazon One will appear in 65 grocery stores under the Whole Foods brand, which is also owned by Amazon. The first of these systems have already been implemented in Seattle, and a full-scale expansion to California is now planned. So far, critics have expressed doubts that such technology provides at least some advantages over other contactless payment methods - for example, over the phone.

However, the biggest backlash among the public and many politicians in the United States was caused by an Amazon ad, in which users receive a $10 reward for registering their ID and palm prints. While the company claims the data is stored in an encrypted form, senators have yet to come up with an answer to the question of how that information will be used. And musicians at the Red Rocks festival boycotted the news, forcing Amazon to refuse to deploy this payment technology at the event.
