Brand Announces Enterprise Grade SSD
Samsung has announced that it is developing an enterprise-grade SSD with support for PCIe 5.0. The model was named PM1743. It uses sixth generation V-NAND flash memory chips.
Image: According to the manufacturer, the model PM1743 drive will be able to offer sequential read speeds of up to 13,000 MB / s, and write speeds of up to 6,600 MB / s. The device will be capable of handling up to 2,500,000 input and output operations per second (IOPS). This is nearly double the fastest NVMe drives in the current PCIe 4.0 standard. Furthermore, it is noted that the energy efficiency of the new product will be up to 608 MB / s per watt of energy consumed, which is 30% higher than the current PCIe 4.0 standard.
The device is designed for use on server systems and will be available in volumes from 1.92 to 15.36TB, in the traditional 2.5-inch form factor as well as the 3-inch EDSFF form factor.
The manufacturer is already sending samples of the PM1743 solid state drive to interested partners. The novelty will be demonstrated at CES 2022 next month. The PM1743 is scheduled to start mass production in the first quarter of next year.
