Core i9 will have a greater 200 MHz all-core boost
Superior Alder Lake models – especially those already released – have a combination of large and small cores. The purpose of small desktop cores is to increase multi-core performance. However, this doesn't work as naturally and universally as a larger number of cores of the same architecture, where another core is simply used and performance increases. Firstly, small cores do not support HT/SMT, ie two-thread processing with one core. If the application benefits, this can be restrictive. Furthermore, they are considerably simpler, so that, in combination with some more complex load types, the CPI can be relatively low. Also, they are not connected to large cores in the same way as large cores, so a load that requires communication between large and small cores can be an issue.
As a result, although there are applications where the “16-core” Alder Lake / Core i9-12900K can reach the 16-core Zen 3 / Ryzen 9 5950X, but mostly its performance is lower and there are also applications where it has a “16 -core” Alder Lake / Core i9-12900K problem to overcome even twelve zen cores 2 / Ryzen 9 3900X.
While for generations Coffee Lake an Comet Lake Core i9 was Intel's best-selling retail product, Rocket Lake an Alder Lake no longer works. For example, on Amazon, the Core i9-12900K is in 20th place, surpassed by every Ryzena 5000 over a year old, several Core 11000/10000 models and several 9000, in short, several generations of processors in low-end models to high-end.
So Intel probably has enough stocks on the Core i9-12000 and is trying to hit the market with another model that would have 16-core. The so-called Core i9-12900KS should be based on the same silicon as the classic Core i9-12900K, but the multi-core boost will be increased by 200 MHz. In sheer numbers, the comparison is quite problematic - the current model can reach 5, 0 GHz, but most tests measured a maximum of 4.85-4.90 GHz (which may be due to the consumption limit). If Intel raises the limits of the novelty, it is possible that the actual offset will be closer to 300 MHz (than 200 MHz on paper).
