Pixel 5a takes advantage of the titanic Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and iPhone 13 Pro in the ''blind camera'' test
Renowned tech blogger Marques Keith Brownlee, aka MKBHD, blindly tested 16 smartphones on Instagram that went on sale in 2021. More than 3 million social media users took part in the vote, and the result turned out to be extremely difficult to predict based on the price of the smartphones compared.
Although models from different price categories participated in the tests, there were no third-level options in the classification. We test devices from Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and iPhone 13 Pro to POCO X3 GT, Motorola Edge and Google Pixel 5a. The latter became the unexpected winner – it was his photos that users liked the most.
It is noteworthy that flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra or the iPhone 13 Pro didn't even make it through the second round, giving way to more budget options. It is noteworthy that users with any level of knowledge about photographic technology voted on equal terms, only the preferences of the majority of respondents were taken into account.
Pixel 5a beat Pixel 6 Pro, which has a more expensive and probably better sensor, in the first round. The blogger himself specifically noted that his project is more of a social experiment – as users, usually voicing out loud approval of well-known and expensive brands, will behave when taking tests where the photos are not tagged.
In the final round, Google Pixel 5a's rival was the OnePlus 9 Pro. Pixel was voted on by 75% of the participants. The blogger's conclusions are curious:
-Survey participants most often choose brighter photos; the choice depends much less on other features;
-In the age of social media, where images are often displayed in a compressed form, the clarity of images plays a relatively small role for those evaluating them;
-Finally, modern users are interested in technologies that don't require settings for high-quality photos – ideally, everything should be done at the touch of a button.
Furthermore, according to MKBHD, the price of the devices is practically irrelevant. In a subjective multi-stage competition, a smartphone costing $399 or more won.
