Play YouTube videos on PiP with this Safari extension

One of the novelties that Apple introduced in iOS 15 is the possibility of adding extensions to its native Safari browser. They are small applications developed by third parties that add new functions and features to the Apple browser.

And an example of an extension that can be very useful to us is «Vinegar». This application for Safari replaces the YouTube player with another one written in HTML that provides a series of very important improvements, such as PiP (image within image) playback. For how little it costs, it is worth installing.

The truth is that playing YouTube videos from Safari is a fairly simple experience, without many options to choose from. And YouTube's own application is not to rave about, really. Luckily, from iOS 15 we have the possibility to add extensions to our Safari browser. The truth is that there are not many to choose from, but little by little developers are adapting their extensions from other browsers so that they can be installed in Apple's native browser.

And we have just discovered a new extension that is very interesting. It's called "Vinegar", vinegar in English, and the truth is that we don't know why it's called that. The fact is that it is a small application for the Safari of iOS, iPadOS and macOS whose function is to replace the YouTube player with its own written in HTML. Once installed in your Safari, it provides a series of substantial improvements when it comes to playing YouTube videos from the browser. Eliminate ads, stop YouTube from tracking your activities, activate the PiP function, videos don't cut off if you switch tabs, and you can choose to play audio only, among other things.

You can install the "Vinegar" extension from the App Store for 1.99 Euros. Available for the Safari of your Mac, iPhone and iPad.
