Google Meet now on Chromecast

Google developers continue to actively develop the Meet video conferencing service. This time, she announced the addition of support for broadcast conferences for Chromecast devices, as well as TVs that support this technology. This is accomplished through a camera, microphone and audio device on the user's computer, while the image is displayed on the television screen.
According to the developers, expanding Meet support to more devices is the right step, especially in the context of the service's popularity, which grew significantly during the coronavirus pandemic. Previously, Meet was available on some Google Assistant-enabled smart displays, such as Nest Hub Max.
To cast Meet calls to the TV screen, the user will need to install the latest version of the Chrome browser on their computer or laptop and update the Chromecast software. In this scheme, the Chrome browser plays an important role, since the computer's microphone and camera will be used during the conference. Simply put, only video during a video call is streamed from Meet to a Chromecast-compatible TV or monitor. Users can start broadcasting new video chats on the TV or transfer conversations already started to the big screen.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, Google has been actively developing its Meet service to successfully compete with competitors like Zoom. In May, the company made Meet free for all users with a Gmail account. Not long ago, the ability to organize video chats via Gmail on Android devices was added. This feature is still in the distribution phase, so it may not be available to some users.
