TCL

BlackBerry still exists, and will launch a new smartphone soon

In early February 2020, TCL Communication announced that it would discontinue the production of smartphones under the BlackBerry brand. Fans of products from the once legendary “blackberry” brand took this information as a point in its history. But the latest news gives hope that BlackBerry devices will return to the market.
Six months after TCL announced the "separation" of BlackBerry, the latter signed an agreement with OnwardMobility, a data protection company. The result of this partnership is expected to be the launch of a new BlackBerry smartphone in 2021. Collaboration with OnwardMobility seems a logical step, because BlackBerry devices have always been focused on corporate users, and the emphasis on them was on privacy and security.
Of course, OnwardMobility itself will not develop the phone. This will be done by FIH Mobile, a subsidiary of Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn, but in accordance with OnwardMobility's strict guidelines. There is little other information about the new BlackBerry device. We only know that it will support 5G networks and will have a physical keyboard, like its well-known predecessors.
BlackBerry has been in financial trouble for several consecutive years. The crisis still forced him in 2016 to announce the end of smartphone production and the intention to focus on software. But thanks to the sale of the Chinese brand TCL, BlackBerry devices have not disappeared from the market. For more than three years, several models have been launched, including the very popular KeyOne and Key2.
