Donald Trump TikTok United States Ban President Executive Action Info When Date Banned August 1 2020
Donald Trump gave Microsoft 45 days to take over and restructure the Chinese spy app TikTok

After Microsoft officially confirmed its interest in buying the American TikTok business, U.S. President Donald Trump has calmed down a bit. He agreed to give Microsoft the opportunity to negotiate the acquisition of TikTok if the deal closes in 45 days. This was reported by Reuters, citing three of its informants.
As part of the acquisition proposal, Microsoft could gain around 100 million TikTok users in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and will become a notable competitor to social media giants like Facebook and Snap. Remember: Microsoft owns the professional social network LinkedIn.
On Friday, Donald Trump rejected Microsoft's acquisition of the American TikTok business. But after talking to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, he changed his mind and allowed negotiations to acquire ByteDance's TikTok if a deal was reached before September 15. According to sources, this is the deadline set by ByteDance and Microsoft by the United States Foreign Investment Committee (CFIUS): this body is examining transactions in search of potential national security risks.
One of the informants said Trump changed his mind after pressure from some Republican Party aides and representatives. The ban on TikTok would have frustrated many young users before the US presidential elections in November and would likely cause a wave of legal problems. Several prominent Republican lawmakers have issued statements in the past two days calling on Trump to support the company's purchase of TikTok, a source said. "A victory," wrote Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, commenting on the new position of the US president.
The negotiations between ByteDance and Microsoft will be overseen by CFIUS, which has the power to block any agreement. Microsoft warned in a statement that there is uncertainty about the deal. In a statement released on Sunday night that does not mention TikTok, China's ByteDance said it was facing unimaginable difficulties in entering the international market.
