Type C USB port becomes standard on smartphones

According to the forecast of the analytical agency Omdia, more than 50% of the smartphones that will be placed on the market this year will receive a USB Type-C interface. The report also said that the supply of USB Type-C connectors will rise from 824 million units in 2018 to 3.5 billion units in 2023.
Experts believe that by 2022, more than half of all manufactured computing devices that support data transfer will be equipped with at least one USB Type-C port. This means that the interface will be actively used not only on smartphones, but also on products like laptops.
Although smartphones do not yet have a universal charging solution, many manufacturers have stopped using their own solutions, switching to USB Type C connectors. In recent years, the popularity of the USB Type C connector, which not only allows you to charge the device, but also transferring data and performing other functions on a single cable has increased significantly. First of all, this is due to the lower cost of USB Type C, so that this interface has become common in economical devices.
While not all smartphone manufacturers use the same solution to charge smartphones, this may change in some regions of the world. Earlier this year, an initiative was approved in the European Union that proposed the introduction of a single standard for charging devices shipped to the region. This ensures that users can use old chargers with new gadgets, as well as reducing the amount of electronic waste.
