Chinese manufacturer to triple NAND 3D memory production at Wuhan factory

It is not just the bad news that comes from Wuhan. Yangtze Memory recently launched the construction of the second phase of workshops for the production of 3D NAND memory. Thus, the design capacity of the YMTC plant near the company's headquarters will reach 300,000 300 mm silicon wafers per month. The capacity of the existing workshops in the first stage will be 100 thousand plates per month, which will be done by the end of this year.
The triple production volumes at the base of the YMTC plant in Wuhan will take the Chinese manufacturer to the world leaders in the NAND memory market. It should be remembered that the company is building two more plants for the launch of 3D NAND: one near Nanjing and the second near Chengdu.
There is practically no information about these two plants. After the completion of all the planned phases of construction and installation of the equipment, both plants must produce 300 thousand 300 mm substrates monthly with NAND chips. The financing volume of each one reaches US $ 24 billion. At the end of the current decade, the YMTC will process up to one million 300 mm plates with 3D NAND memory each month. It is not surprising that Toshiba decided to leave this market quickly, although it was the discoverer of NAND.
According to the conclusion of the first stage of the YMTC workshops in Wuhan, for the planned capacity of 100 thousand 300 mm sheets per month, which, as we indicated above, will happen later this year, the company's participation in the global NAND market will reach 5%. If YMTC implements all of its plans, by the end of the decade, its market share will exceed 30 to 40%.
This can be avoided by a Western sanctions policy. To mitigate the impact of this scenario, YMTC is investing in Chinese industrial equipment manufacturers. For example, YMTC has significant stakes in local companies Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment and NAURA Technology Group. This is not a hundred percent protection, but the move in the only direction that everyone wins - in investments in the local economy.
