HERMÈS
The porcelain jewel of the French brand
French luxury brand Hermès launched a limited edition of the Arceau Harnais Remix, a hand-engraved and engraved porcelain dial watch. Sold for about 48 thousand euros, the 38 mm white gold watch set with 82 diamonds is the new version of a piece created in 1978.
With its round case with asymmetric fasteners that resemble a stirrup, the Arceau watch designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978 is recognizable. The piece was redesigned by Hermès for a special collection and limited to 24 pieces worldwide.
The hand-painted and engraved porcelain dial highlights Hermès' savoir-faire (knowledge) and creativity. The design composed of two sumptuous horses occupies the central element of the watch, whose original design was signed by Hugo Grygkar, designer of the French house between the 1940s and 1959.
At the time, the artist was inspired by a work that was part of the private collection of Émile Hermès, representing a team of harnessed horses, combed and using multicolored plumes, designed by two young 19th century architects - Fontaine and Percier - responsible for designing a cart for the coronation of Napoleon I in 1804.
The equestrian representation is born from the meticulous gesture of the artisan, after almost a month of work on the clock with porcelain dial. The matte and delicate aspect of the material corresponds to the manufacturing stage before enameling, a process that makes porcelain smooth and shiny. The different colors are applied directly to the raw material, and the delicate painting of each color is interspersed with successive and precise passages in the oven to fix the pigments.
