Twitter tries to intimate Donald Trump
The tweets in question will be preceded by a message explaining that they go against the rules of the social network, but will be broadcast in the same "in the interest of the general public," explained Twitter in a blog post.
"Participating in the public debate includes giving everyone the opportunity to talk about issues that interest them, this can be particularly important when it comes to government officials and politicians," said San Francisco-based technology.
The social network argues that "because of their position, those responsible have a huge influence and sometimes say things that can be considered controversial or invite debate and discussion."
"There are certain cases where it is in the public interest to have access to certain tweets, even when they contradict our rules," the social network argued.
In some "very rare cases," Twitter will put "a warning, a screen that you need to click on before you see the tweet, in order to give context and clarity."
In addition to the warning, Twitter plans to offer less visibility to publications that violate the rules, as it already does with sensitive content.
The new rule will apply to government officials, elected officials and candidates for an election or government position with more than 100,000 followers, and the account will need to be certified by Twitter.
These measures will come into effect as of today but will not affect earlier publications, and are implemented at a time when US President Donald Trump, who may be affected by the measure, accuses the social network of censoring him.
"They prevent people from following me on Twitter, and I have a lot more difficulty getting my message across," Fox told Fox Business. Lusa Agency
