Hackers use Twitter "dormant" accounts for terrorist propaganda
Although social networks focus on spreading hate speech and propaganda to support terrorism, there are still ways for ISIS supporters to use Twitter to promote their horror ideology.
According to TechCrunch, ISIS supporters are stealing access to old Twitter accounts unused by their creators for terrorist propaganda actions. To do this, extremists access accounts through valid or non-validated email addresses, with names similar to those of the social network.
Hackers can access the accounts because Twitter has not confirmed these email accounts for more than a decade. Therefore, you can use the service without having a valid address. Twitter just blocks some of the addresses and hackers only have to fill in what's missing from the address to reset it to authentication.
As mentioned, these accounts have put a lot of multimedia elements related to advertising, from photographs, messages and videos, to recruiting new members. Many of these accounts already have tens of thousands of followers. Twitter will already have deleted several of those accounts, noting that the company is working to identify solutions to protect users, including checking emails during registration. There is also a part of the "blame" attributed to email providers, such as Yahoo and Hotmail, who disable accounts but recycle their addresses. Sapo
