Huawei: Reino Unido admite receios de espionagemUK admits spy
UK defense secretary Gavin Williamson admitted to having "serious and deep concerns" about Huawei, echoing fears that the company may have too close relations with the Chinese government.
"I have serious and profound concerns about offering Huawei the UK 5G network. It's something we need to look at carefully. We have to look at what partners Australia and the US are doing to ensure they have the maximum security in this 5G network and we have to recognize as fact that, as has been recently exposed, the Chinese state sometimes acts maliciously "Williamson said according to The Times.
One of the fears that has been echoed on the suspicions is that Huawei has 'back doors' only available to the Chinese state, thus allowing the country's government to devise a spying strategy for countries using equipment from Chinese technology.
In response, a Huawei representative said "cybersecurity is the number one priority" and ensures that this is an area where the company is "investing heavily". "As a responsible company and significant investor in the UK, we are open to a dialogue with the British government and the rest of the industry as long as it is based on facts and evidence," the statement said.
