Instagram introduces features for blind surfing the social network
The Instragram revealed new features aimed at blind people. The two news are intended to bring to the social network a potential of 285 million new users, hitherto prevented from surfing, since the social network focuses on photographs and videos, many of them without even having sound.
The first feature introduced is an alternate auto-text mode, which allows users to hear the photo descriptions on the screen reader as they browse through the news feed, access the Explore menu and profiles. To do this, the system uses object recognition technology to generate descriptions in the photographs, so blind users can listen to the list of items that the photos can contain as they navigate through the application, explains Instagram. Another feature is the submission of photographs to the social network. Users can also enter a second, more detailed description after submitting the photos. To do this, go to the advanced settings and enrich the captions of the photos, and thus give a more detailed oral description to the blind users. Although it is more laborious to contribute to the possibility of blind people navigating the social network more easily, it allows more public access to their profiles. Sapo
