Samsung advances with 30TB "record" SSDs
Samsung began production of its new SSD disk model, the PM1643, aimed at the next generation of enterprise storage. With a capacity of 30.72 terabytes (TB), the unit features twice as much space as the previous model, launched March 2016.The disc is based on 64-layer V-NAND technology, inserted into a 2.5-inch box. The new technology has read speeds of 2,100 MB / s and 1,700 MB / s of read, with a sequential read performance three times greater than the current 2.5-inch SATA SSD.By the end of the year Samsung plans to extend the offer of the new disc, with versions of 15.36TB, 7.68TB, 3.84TB, 1.92TB, 960GB and 800GB. According to the manufacturer, the goal is to accelerate the transition from common HDD disks to the SSD system. The new disk integrates software to support the protection and retention of information, as well as recovering it in case of power failure. The error-correction algorithm minimizes the need for space maintenance, Samsung said in a statement.
