MWC 2025
Samsung brought a prototype of a portable console with a foldable OLED screen to MWC 2025, a mobile technology event in Barcelona. Dubbed Flex Gaming, the device features a 7.2-inch panel that folds vertically.
The concept device, which resembles a Nintendo Switch Lite, features a “Home” button on the right, an “N” button on the left, and a pair of analog and digital directional buttons on each side. The foldable panel in the center of the device is reminiscent of the Galaxy Z Fold line of phones.
No details were revealed about the Samsung Flex Gaming, such as the resolution of the foldable screen, refresh rate, or maximum brightness. However, considering the similarities, the panel should have features similar to the brand's foldable phones.
Although it is a concept device, a game console with a foldable screen is still something new on the market. In other words, the South Korean company's prototype could inspire other companies to invest in similar technology for a future portable model.
It is worth mentioning that the portable console market has seen significant growth in recent years. In addition to the Nintendo Switch, “portable PCs” such as Valve’s Steam Deck and Asus’ Rog Ally have become a must-have for many gamers.
So, the device with a foldable screen similar to the Samsung Flex Gaming would be yet another evolution for portable gaming devices. Making the devices even more compact and easy to transport.
This is not the first time that Samsung has shown off a product with the Flex Gaming name. A concept device with the same name was presented at CES 2023, but with different features.
According to SamMobile, the old model had a portable console format similar to current devices. However, the difference was the screen with a horizontal fold similar to the Galaxy Z Flip cell phones.
Apparently, Samsung has improved the old technology, making it even more practical.
