CES 2025

StandByMe 2: LG's 'portable TV' is a hit at CES 2025

LG took advantage of the CES 2025 electronics fair to introduce the second generation of its battery-powered portable TV. Called StandByMe 2, the device maintains the hype of the original model, adding some important upgrades such as increased image resolution and battery life, as well as three new accessories specially designed to display the portable TV in different ways.

The line – which has already become well-known in TikTok videos – has as its main objective portability, allowing it to be used outdoors during a trip, or even indoors where normal TVs usually don't reach: near the head of a bed or near a bathtub.

LG portable TV? Understand how it works...To reinforce this concept of portability, LG incorporated three new accessories into the StandByMe 2. The first of these is very similar to a foldable stand used on tablets. With it, the TV rests on a surface in landscape position, slightly tilted backwards. To be used more vertically, the manufacturer has developed another accessory, which works in a similar way to a picture frame. The third accessory is the one that provides the solution for attaching the StandByMe 2 to the wall. It is a type of "reinforced handle" that can be used to hang the device on a vertical surface and also to move the device more safely.

The TV has previously been presented inside a case, in the StandByMe Go model, and with a support pedestal in the original version. In addition to the accessories, LG's solution presents some interesting upgrades in terms of specifications. The device maintains the 27-inch touch-sensitive panel, increasing the resolution from 1080p to 1440p. Battery life has also been improved, allowing it to last up to four hours away from sockets and the power grid. Additionally, the manufacturer has incorporated a magnet to magnetically attach the control to the body of the TV and a USB-C input for attaching peripherals, such as a webcam. At the time of writing this article, LG had not released a price or official launch date.
