Zenfone 12 Ultra leak reveals flagship chipset and 16 GB RAM
Asus' next flagship smartphone has turned up online in an early set of leaks. Not only will the Zenfone 12 Ultra sport Qualcomm's latest flagship Snapdragon chipset, but it will also have up to 16 GB of RAM like the Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro.
Asus has now confirmed that the Zenfone 12 Ultra exists, shortly after releasing the ROG Phone 9 and ROG Phone 9 Pro globally. The successor to last year's Zenfone 11 Ultra (curr. $899.99 on Amazon) is not ready for release just yet, though. Instead, the company clarified that the device will not be making its official debut until February 6 during a dedicated launch event.
In the meantime, the device has been spotted on Geekbench under the model number 'ASUSAI2501H'. The listings reveal that Asus has sourced the Snapdragon 8 Elite for the Zenfone 12 Ultra, which also powers the ROG Phone 9 series. Additionally, the device will be available with up to 16 GB of RAM. In all likelihood, there will be a cheaper 12 GB RAM variant as well, just as there is with the Zenfone 11 Ultra and the ROG Phone 9.
Based on the listings that have surfaced so far, it seems that the Zenfone 12 Ultra will perform in line with the Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered handsets that we have reviewed so far. In other words, the device should be averaging just over 3,000 points in the single-core portion of Geekbench 6.3 and close to 9,500 points in the corresponding multi-core benchmark. If the ROG Phone 9 series is anything to go by, then the Zenfone 12 Ultra will launch next month with a larger battery and faster display than its predecessor, too.
Zenfone 12 Ultra has possible specifications leaked... In addition, the motherboard section mentions the code name “walt”, indicating an octa-core processor with six 3.53 GHz cores and two 4.32 GHz cores. The source code also points to the Adreno 830 GPU, suggesting that the chipset used may be the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC.
Although additional details about the Zenfone 12 Ultra have not been officially released, there is speculation that it will share characteristics with the ROG Phone 9, launched in November 2024.
If confirmed, the device may feature a 6.78-inch FHD+ display with a 185 Hz refresh rate. In addition, a triple camera set of 50 MP + 13 MP + 50 MP, a 32 MP front camera. Finally, a 5,800 mAh battery with support for 65 W fast charging.
