Barclays analysts indicate that Cupertino no longer plans to launch the device for next year. The most severe complication is the 5G modem, although it seems strange, Apple wants that modem to be designed by them and for this reason the plans will be delayed with an unknown date.
For the following flagship models of the company, it is expected that they will carry modems designed by Apple inside. The first of them would be for the iPhone SE 4, a plan that has been going on since 2019 when Apple acquired a good part of the business that was owned by Intel. The analysts themselves say that Qualcomm will continue to be the modem provider for this device and the iPhone 16. The calculations were not correct, apart from the development of the modem.
On the other hand, Ming-Chi Kuo affirmed that Apple’s next iPhone SE would already have a more recent design to leave behind the shadow of the iPhone 8. The mobile would have a 6.1-inch OLED screen, in addition to having Face ID and a flat body. We do not know if with this delay of the modem Apple decides to change the plans regarding the design.
We will have third-generation iPhone SE in force for a long time. Both Ming-Chi Kuo and other information sources expect the next device to launch in 2025 at the earliest.. It could be delayed further if Apple doesn’t find a solution with its modem, which doesn’t seem reasonable.
Why does Apple want to launch this iPhone with its own modem? We understand that It is increasingly complicated to depend on external supply chains and also on the manufacturers themselves. Apple wants to shorten times that Qualcomm could set and they want to end that relationship as soon as possible in order to enter a stage.
It is the same case as Apple silicon chips. In addition to the performance itself, Apple no longer wanted to depend on such a large manufacturer that also supplies chips to other competing manufacturers. We hope that the modem problem can be resolved within the next year and that Apple can surprise us with a new model in early 2025.
