MICROSOFT

End of an era for Xbox One

Almost 3 years after the release of the Xbox Series X/Sthe Microsoft has announced that it will stop developing games for its oldest console, the Xbox One. Despite the fact that the company will continue to support previous-gen titles such as Minecraft and Halo Infinite, the teams of Xbox Game Studios they will not be working on new titles for the older console.

This move had to happen at some point to prevent newer and more complex games from being hampered by the limitations that come with the now-decade-old Xbox One. However, it will be possible for those who don’t want to give up their old console to play Series X/S titles such as Starfield and Forza Motorsport through the Xbox Cloud Gaming. “That’s how we’re going to maintain support,” Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty said.

The news comes on the heels of a strong showing for Xbox at last weekend’s big annual showcase. The company announced new titles while providing a fresh look at games like Fable, Avowed and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.

Moving away from the Xbox One will free Microsoft’s teams from the shackles of the previous generation. However, some third-party developers have expressed concerns that the Xbox Series S, which is less powerful than the Series X, is holding them back.
