Pokemon GO: game creators created next-gen Tamagotchi

The company Niantic Labs, famous for the mobile hit Pokemon GO, has released a new game with elements of augmented reality. We're talking about the Peridot project, in which users can interact with virtual pets, actually representing a high-tech version of Tamagotchi.

Pets in Peridot are called dots, depending on the species, they can have fluffy fur, shiny feathers or huge horns. Interacting with them is closely related to activities linked to the user's location. According to the mythology of the game, the dots are magical creatures that have been hibernating for several thousand years. The player takes on the role of a member of a "guardian society". The guardian's task is to help cute pets survive in a world that has changed a lot during hibernation.

One of the characteristics of Peridot is that each pet is genetically unique and created from a combination of seven different characteristics, such as horns, plumage, fur and face. Taking care of a virtual creature is quite simple, as its needs come down to food and play. If you don't pay attention to the animal for a long time, it will not die, but it will be sad until it receives a tasty treat and plays its favorite game. Also, pets can have other desires like eating certain things or going somewhere in the real world. Wish fulfillment helps pets grow. The user can also pet the virtual creature and teach it tricks.

The Verge writes that the augmented reality effects in Peridot are done at a high level, and the virtual creatures interact quite realistically with real-world objects. To look for food, the player must point the pet to one or another area to dig for food. At the same time, the animal can recognize different surfaces, so different food will be found in different places. It can also recognize flowers and pets. With active interaction, a pet can grow to its final stage in less than 24 hours.

When the animal reaches adulthood, it can be introduced to another virtual creature, resulting in a baby that combines the traits of both parents. To interact with the pets of friends and other users of the game, the built-in social application Niantic Campfire is provided. Once the user has a small pet, it will be possible to develop it, similar to what happened with the initial creature. Although Peridot is free to play, there are in-game items that can be purchased for real money.
