Steam Deck will have more than 3 million sold this year

Sales of Valve's Steam Deck handheld console will pass the 3 million mark in 2023, counting the console's launch in 2022. These predictions are given by analytics company Omdia, whose report is cited by GamesIndustry.biz.

According to analysts, in 2022, Valve sold about 1.6 million Steam Deck consoles.

“Obviously, Steam Deck is still just a niche part of the PC gaming market. However, this is unlikely to stop Valve from increasing sales of its set-top box,” said James McWhirter, chief analyst at Omdia.

Market experts also note that the lack of a retail set-top box and its availability only for users of the Steam gaming platform are its “weak point”. Sales of the Steam Deck console started in October 2022 - before that, the console was sold since February, but by invitation only and only in certain regions. By the time of the full release, the company had expanded the console's geography and made it possible to buy in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
