Epic Games says graphics with 8GB of VRAM are already obsolete for games
The world is constantly evolving. And the technological segment is one of which this reality is most felt. Less capable equipment gives way to newer models to also be able to support more advanced software. In that sense, Epic Games now warns that graphics cards with a capacity of 8GB of VRAM memory are already obsolete for gaming.
When looking to buy a graphics card, it might be worth considering the opinion of an Epic Games programmer. During a brief interview, the professional from the North American game creator left the warning that the VRAM memory capacity of your current or future graphics card will be crucial to enjoying or not the games.
For the programmer, a GPU with 8GB of VRAM is now obsolete for gaming. As such, Epic Games advises that graphics cards have at least a 10GB or 12GB capacity.
The main reason for this alert is the new graphics engine Unreal Engine 5 from the company that is designed for graphics with at least 10GB or 12GB. Therefore, there is a fear that GPUs with a lower VRAM memory capacity will have limited performance for this reason.
In other words, basically, users with 8GB graphics cards can continue to play, however, they will possibly have to adjust and reduce some graphic settings, thus not taking advantage of the full potential of Unreal Engine 5. And this is only due to the issue of memory, as many Graphic chips with 8GB are powerful in other features, which easily support high quality games.
If we are talking about, for example, the most recent bestseller Hogwarts Legacy, the game in maximum quality and in a 4K resolution consumes 13GB of VRAM memory without Ray Tracing. And to activate this feature, 15GB of memory is required. As such, in this specific case, the user would need a high-end 16GB graphics card to make the most of these settings.
