Motorola Edge 40 Pro officially announced

Moto Edge 40 Pro official

Motorola’s latest flagship has just been unveiled. The Edge 40 Pro has high-end hardware, improved cameras and a battery that charges very quickly. Read on soon!

Motorola announces the Edge 40 Pro as the successor to the Edge 30 Pro, which was released just over a year ago. The phone is the manufacturer’s latest flagship and much more expensive than the smartphones that Motorola usually releases. For devices in the recently updated Moto G line, for example, you pay a maximum of 299 euros. For this new smartphone you are 899 euro lost.

The Motorola Edge 40 Pro is therefore a hundred euros more expensive than its predecessor and will be in stores soon. Motorola says the smartphone from the second week of April is available. There is no exact release date, but you can read it Android Planet if the Edge 40 Pro is on sale.

Fast hardware and 165Hz screen...The Motorola smartphone has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, the fastest mobile chip for Android phones at the moment. Motorola adds 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space, which should be more than enough for most users.

The screen of the Edge phone is 6.67 inches in size and has – as the name of the device already reveals – rounded sides. This brings back the ‘Edge Lights’ function; the sides of the screen light up when you receive a notification or call. We know this feature from the Edge 30 Pro.

The display has a full HD resolution of 2400 by 1080 pixels. Motorola deliberately does not opt for a high QHD resolution in order to save the battery. The refresh rate does go from 144Hz to 165Hz, although this difference is probably not noticeable in practice. The screen also has thin edges and a small hole for the selfie camera.

The housing is made of glass and therefore wireless charging is possible – more about that later. The Edge 40 Pro has an IP68 certification and is therefore dust and water resistant. According to Motorola, you can even use the phone underwater. The frame is made of aluminum, so the phone should feel sturdy.

Battery is full in 23 minutes...An important feature of the Motorola Edge 40 Pro is the battery. This is 4600 mAh and can charge with no less than 125 Watt. That is much faster than, for example, the Samsung Galaxy S23, which does not exceed 25 watts. The Moto also beats the OnePlus 11 and its 100 Watt fast charging function in this area.

With the included charger, it is possible to charge a completely empty Edge 40 Pro to 100 percent in 23 minutes. Motorola reports that six minutes of charging is enough to get through a day. As mentioned, wireless charging is also possible, although this is a lot less fast (15 Watt).

Improved cameras...There are three cameras on the back of the Motorola Edge 40 Pro. The 50-megapixel main camera has optical image stabilization so that photos do not look too moved if your hands shake, for example. There is also a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens for ‘zoomed out’ photos, although the camera can also take macro pictures. In other words: close-up photos.

Finally, the Edge 40 Pro has a 12-megapixel telephoto lens. This allows you to zoom in 2x optically, whereby the camera is secretly mainly intended for taking portrait photos. The lens is also suitable for bringing the image a little closer, without losing much quality.

On the front is – just like the Edge 30 Pro – a 60-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls. Furthermore, a number of software features have been added, such as the possibility to use the night mode while shooting videos. The ‘Horizon Lock’ function keeps the image stable when you tilt the Motorola device.

Software and Update Policy...Finally, the software of the Motorola Edge 40 Pro. The smartphone runs on an almost bare-bones version of Android 13 out of the box with some tweaks from Motorola. The phone will receive three major Android upgrades in the future: to Android 14, 15 and 16. Motorola also promises to roll out security patches for four years, which appear every other month.

Motorola Edge 40 Pro release and price...The Motorola Edge 40 Pro has a suggested retail price in the Netherlands 899 euro. The device is from the second week of April for sale and appears in two colors. You can choose from black or blue, although the blue version is only available from Motorola itself.
