You can enhance video in Microsoft Edge browser, here's how
VSR (Video Super Resolution) technology has been added to the preliminary version of the search engine and allows you to increase the resolution of videos during viewing. Owners of devices with graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD will be able to use it.
In addition to improving the image, the function eliminates artifacts and makes unreadable text more readable. However, such a useful feature has several limitations. Firstly, it does not work on all graphics adapters - among the supported models, developers note NVIDIA GeForce models from the RTX line (series 20, 30 and 40), as well as AMD Radeon RX 5700-7800. Second, VSR upscales video to a resolution of no more than 720p, but no less than 192 pixels in width or height. Third, content with DRM protection cannot be improved (eg Netflix). In addition, the innovation only works if the device is connected to the network.
Also, it is worth noting that at the moment the update is enabled by default for only 50% of users. However, you can activate it yourself. See how to do it:
-Opening the Microsoft Edge browser
-In the search bar we drive in “edge://flags/#edge-video-super-resolution” (without quotes)
-Set the Enabled parameter and restart the browser
If the function is available and the PC or laptop has a compatible video card, an “HD” icon will appear in the address bar, clicking on which you can turn video enhancement on and off.
Going forward, Microsoft promised to add Super Video Resolution support for systems with multiple graphics cards and hybrid chips.
