GeForce RTX 5000 and Radeon RX 8000 graphics accelerators will have GDDR7 video memory

The Teknix website reports that the fast GDDR7 video memory will be used in the GeForce RTX 5000 and Radeon RX 8000 graphics adapters. Now Samsing and Cadence are working on such memory.

GDDR6 (and GDDR6X) memory is put into real graphics cards. It has been used in 3D graphics cards for about five years. Peak speed is 24Gbps.

As for GDDR7, it will run at 36Gbps. In the future, the speed will increase to 50 Gbps. Paired with a GPU with a 256-bit bus, the transfer rate can be 1.15 TB/s. With 384-bit bus, 1.7 TB/s (for comparison, GeForce RTX 4090 with GDDR6X memory and 384-bit bus is only 1.05 TB/s). As for the GPU with a 128-bit bus, with GDDR7 memory, the transfer rate can be 575 GB/s.

The GeForce RTX 5000 and Radeon RX 8000 graphics adapters will likely be introduced closer to the end of 2024.
