Ten reasons not to buy Samsung Galaxy S23

We’ve looked at ten reasons that might entice you to buy the compact Galaxy S23. Now it’s time to talk about what, on the contrary, you may not like in this device.

-Reason 1. Small display – minus a compact smartphone:

Like it or not, the screen is the most important thing in a smartphone, we look at it all the time, and what we can do on the phone depends on its size. A compact flagship with a 6.1-inch screen is a great choice for calls, correspondence in instant messengers. But as soon as it comes to watching movies, navigating in the browser, and other familiar actions, it definitely becomes not so convenient.

A plus of the device for someone can become its minus, compactness has a downside, which cannot be altered in any way, so it’s worth looking at the device in the store so that it doesn’t hurt excruciatingly later. Usually such a phone is taken as a second one.

-Reason number 2. A compact smartphone is not a universal machine:

We can say that this is still the same first point, but here it is necessary to strengthen the statement, to explain that such a smartphone is not a universal device for all tasks. For example, it is difficult to watch movies on it – you can, but, of course, everything depends on your perception. And the video where you want to see the action here also looks too small.

Unlike its older counterparts, this device wins by compactness, but it also has disadvantages. Usage scenarios for a small device are noticeably limited, as well as the battery is not designed for heavy applications. Is it possible to play with toys here? Yes. Is it comfortable? I think no.

-Reason number 3. Painted aluminium, scratch resistant glass:

It so happened that this year for the first time I use novelties without covers, at the time of the appearance of the devices they simply were not on sale. As a result, I carry them with other phones in my pocket, and this is the worst thing in terms of peeling off the case and other elements. Everything that can be peeled off and mechanically damaged does so in practice.

In total, I can say that it’s not worth using the device without a case, the aluminum metal frame gets creases during impacts and then quickly peels off.

In black, the glass on the back can get scratched (it’s not that easy to scratch, but the sapphire glass on the iPhone 14 Pro did it). Scratched separately with metal objects, the surface is stable. The problem is only in black devices.

-Reason number 4. Basic variant for 8/128 GB – differences from older models:

We are used to the fact that when buying this or that version of the Galaxy, we always get the same characteristics. This year there is a small exception for the S23 – the 8/128 GB version differs in that the built-in memory is UFS 3.1, and not 4.0, as everywhere else. And this gives us less performance of the device as a whole. Therefore, it is worth remembering this when choosing a smartphone, on the other hand, for a baby it is not so important – you won’t play on it, will you?

-Reason number 5. No charger included:

I will not tire of repeating that Samsung, repeating the steps of Apple, earns extra money, but loses its customers, however, like the giant from Cupertino. People need chargers in the box, moreover, they should be fast chargers for flagships. Look at the mid-range devices, they charge 45W, 65W or even more, but Samsung sells them separately. And that’s bad! Winning in the moment turns into a loss of customer loyalty.

-Reason number 6. Heating, increased frequency of the processor:

I complained about the S23 Ultra that the cooling system can not cope with the increased frequency of Snapdragon 8 Gen.2, immediately cooling is easier and heating is higher. And this is very felt in heavy tasks, in my case in synthetic tests. Let me remind you that the scenarios for using this baby are completely different, here heating is likely when transferring large amounts of data, when using the device as a modem. And this is still a minus, since heating leads to a decrease in operating time.

-Reason number 7. Lottery with Samsung Pay in Russia:

Formally, Samsung did not block the work of Samsung Pay with cards of banks that were not subject to sanctions. But in reality, the operation of this service is supported only for phones officially delivered to the country, which we do not have today. Samsung Pay partially works on models from the countries of the Caucasus, as well as Kazakhstan. You can add Mir cards to them, pay for purchases from your phone, as before. But the lack of a clear understanding of which cards will be registered in the service and which will not, creates confusion. There is always a feeling that the service may stop working, this directly crosses out its reliability, it is easier to use Mir. Those who did not turn out to be lucky will have to change the region for the phone, this can be done quickly and painlessly at home.

-Reason number 8. Parallel import and no official service:

When buying a flagship, we want to get official service so that, if something happens, we will be served first class. It’s a pity, but this service is no more, now only the seller’s guarantee, which usually means there is none. You can deal with minor problems, but if it is something serious, you are waiting for the courts with the seller, long proceedings. This is what pushes many people into the arms of Chinese manufacturers, who directly supply goods and provide services.

-Reason number 9. S22/S22 Ultra availability and prices:

You will be surprised, but there are almost no differences between the S23 and its last year’s version, they are minimal – battery, processor. Therefore, the purchase of S22 looks profitable, on the other hand, if compactness is not important to you, then for the price of S23 you can buy S22 Ultra – and these are still devices of a different class. There is something to think about here.

-Reason 10. Price devices:

You have to pay for compactness, and pay a lot, the device did not become publicly available, however, no one promised this. The important point here is that, other things being equal, you can find a huge number of Chinese smartphones with very good characteristics (losing on the camera, but almost everything else looks more interesting).

For comparison, we take the opportunity to buy a Galaxy Fold4 in Russia for 80 thousand rubles (a completely new device on the gray market), estimate the cost of S23 around 70 thousand rubles and understand that the positioning story has completely broken down, it has become artificial without control from the manufacturer.
