Electronics giant sold more than 10 million foldable smartphones in 2022
Total foldable smartphone shipments in 2022 amounted to 14.2 million devices. And Samsung has become a clear leader, having sold just under 12 million devices. Other market players – Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Honor – shipped less than 1 million foldable devices during the same period.
Despite the drop in shipments in the fourth quarter of 2022, the foldable smartphone market is in relative health, especially given the global economic woes in the smartphone industry as a whole. writes Gizmochina with reference to the report from the analytical firm Canalys.
Looking ahead, experts highly estimate the potential of the foldable smartphone market. According to their assumptions, shipments in 2023 will double to 30 million, of which 15 million will fall on Samsung (specifically on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4).
Foldable smartphones are gaining popularity due to their unique design and innovative features (mostly double the screen size).
As more companies release foldable phones and improve their design, they are likely to become even more popular in the coming years.
At the moment, Samsung seems to have a firm grip on the foldable device market, but the company clearly expects more competition. Accordingly, the brand intends to reinforce its position by launching the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 later this year.
