Company returns to legacy power connector with Geforce RTX 4070

At the launch of the Geforce RTX 4000 series, Nvidia left the old mess of 8-pin power connector behind and stepped wholeheartedly into the future and the transition to the 12VHPWR connector was a fact.

A little bit anyway, because with the launch of the Geforce RTX 4070 right around the corner, the upcoming model returns to the 8-pin power connector. Data providers from graphics card manufacturers report to Igorslab that most of the new RTX 4070 models skip the new power connector in favor of the older standard. Above all, it is said to be a return to the older connector for the models that have a total power budget of 200 W. For the more expensive models that are equipped with a power budget of up to 225 W, however, it is expected that 12VHPWR is the connector that applies.

Igor further reports that similar measures are to be expected for the expected models RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060 fixed there with implementation on all models that are sold. However, when the two upcoming mid-range models will appear is still unclear. If the information is correct, then the RTX 4070 in Founders Edition guise will be the last model in the RTX 4000 series that Nvidia equips with the newer 12VHPWR connector, unless the company chooses to go ahead with the infamous model The Beast, which is said to be equipped with two power connectors.

What it all results in and what the RTX 4070 will ultimately look like remains to be seen, but until then we simply have to be patient and wait.
