Bing’s chatter lures Google users
Microsoft has done everything to bring you the first smart search engine, and its efforts seem to be paying off.
Microsoft apparently kept its own search engine alive for years, but now it seems that Bing is really getting a chance from users. After the company, in cooperation with OpenAI, turbocharged the search engine with the GPT-4 generative language model, a significant number of users began to try out what the new technology is good for.
Meanwhile, Google’s numbers began to deteriorate.
It’s a dramatic transition, and while it’s not an exaggeration, there’s no need to press the panic button at Google just yet. Microsoft recently announced that they have reached approximately 100 million active users with Bing, an increase of approximately 16% over Reuters according to its meaning. While this is a huge improvement for the Redmond company, the drop for its rival is only 1 percent.
Bing has also gained strength in the field of phone apps, since the chat mode has been available in the mobile client, about eight times as many downloads have been made as before, while downloads of Google’s application fell by 2%.
It is therefore clear that it was worth caring about Bing, but we must not forget that while Microsoft has almost nothing to lose in the search engine market, Google is playing with its life, and a wrong move can have serious consequences. That is why the announcement of the self-developed Bard, which is similar to Bing chat, was highly anticipated, and although the test period has already started, it is currently only available to a narrow circle.
