AS ROCK
Probably the cheapest AM5 board with A620 chipset photographed
At the beginning of March, ASRock introduced the B650M-HDV/M.2 board, which became the cheapest model with the B650 chipset available from $119. For an even lower price level, there will be boards with the A620 chipset. Photos of the first one, called ASRock A620M-HDV/M.2, are already in the world. Given that the board labeled HDV/M.2 is the cheapest and least equipped within the B650 series, it is reasonable to expect that a product labeled as such will be the cheapest and least equipped option within the A620 series as well.
The first look at the PCB suggests that it is a product for a lower price segment. An AM5 socket, two DDR5 slots and a PCIe (4.0) ×16 slot are basically essentials, as are two SATA connectors. The superstructure is therefore two PCIe (4.0) ×1 slots, an M.2 slot for SSD and a slot for M.2 Wi-Fi. A small plus is the shielding of the PCIe x16 slot. That’s about it.
The rear connectors offer 5x USB (probably 2x fast, 2x slow, 1x fast USB-C; other USBs will be supported by a cable for the front panel), RJ-45 (network), 3x stereo-jack for sound, HDMI, DisplayPort (we would have to guess the version for now, but hopefully at least HDMI will be in version 2.1). There is a button – whether it will be used to switch to the backup BIOS, or only to reset, is also unknown.
The release of boards with A620 chipsets is expected in the spring, according to some sources it could be as early as April. According to earlier reports, these boards should cost under $100. In combination with the current prices of DDR5, which have fallen pleasantly since last year and you can already get 32 GB for 2300 CZK (with an additional charge of three hundred and branded modules with cooling), the possibility opens up to build essentially low-end AM5 assemblies. However, from the current point of view, this is hindered by the absence of low-end processors for the AM5 socket. It can therefore be expected that AMD will also offer something with a lower price of $229 (for which it released the Ryzen 5 7600 at the beginning of the year) around the middle of the year.
