Internet Explorer dies on Valentine's Day
Some romance and love. When something is no longer useful, you need to get rid of it. And to make it interesting, maybe even on the stupid business holiday.
There's probably some irony in that, but on Valentine's Day, Microsoft finally shuts down Internet Explorer for good. This prehistoric browser first appeared in 1995 and became the standard for years to come. Netscape Navigator was a little behind it, but IE, as it was later integrated into Windows, was clearly in the lead. However, it also led the way in becoming a notorious carrier of spyware, viruses, some God forced and changed its home address, and totally infested the user interface with adware.
This Firefox, released in version 1.0 in 2004, did not suffer from this and users migrated to it. IE was clearly still dominating, but over time it became clear that it had figured it out. That is why in 2015 Microsoft presented the new Edge browser and since then it has been trying to convince everyone that it is the best and there is no reason to use another one. If anyone is still using IE, they were forced to switch and upgrade to Edge on 2/14/2023. However, Windows 7 and 8.1 users can still run Explorer, but we don't see a single reasonable reason why.
