Free Microsoft Teams app for enterprise will shut down

Microsoft will discontinue its free Teams app for businesses, also known as Team Free, on April 12. Only users who switch to a paid account can take their messages, files and other data with them.

Microsoft offers two paid options for the migration. Users can switch to Teams Essentials for EUR 3.40 per user per month. For this they receive 10 gigabytes of cloud storage and a limit of three hundred participants applies.

A more expensive alternative is Microsoft 365 Business Basic for 5.10 euros per user per month. The advantage is that this includes a terabyte of cloud storage.

Users can also migrate to the non-business free version of Teams, but the data will not be automatically transferred to the new account.

With this free variant, meetings can last up to 60 minutes and have no more than 100 participants.
