How to Update Xbox Wireless Controller Firmware
Updating your wireless controller is the easiest way to do this. Every Xbox controller except the original wireless controller version is capable of updating wirelessly. You must make sure your controller batteries are new or fully charged before attempting to update the firmware.
To check for and install a firmware update, you need to go to the controller section in the accessories menu.
Press the Xbox button on the controller, select Profile & System > Settings > Devices & Connections > Accessories > and select the specific controller.
Select the three dots (…) and it should tell you what firmware version your controller is on, and if a new firmware version is available, an “update” button should appear.
If you see the button, select it and your controller should update.
You can also upgrade your controller's stereo headphone jack while upgrading wirelessly. To update the headset, plug it in while the console is on and before starting the firmware update. Plugging it in with the console turned off or after the update has started may stop the auto-detect feature and cause the headset to fail to update.
