Xubuntu developers announced a new type of distribution - Minimal. According to the authors of the project, it is intended for weak personal computers.
Unlike the Desktop versions, which weigh around 3 GB, the new distribution will fit on a normal CD, that is, its weight will not exceed 700 MB. This can be achieved thanks to the rejection of additional components, without pre-installation of which it is possible to do.
It is not yet known what the developers mean by weak PCs, because even the usual Xubuntu with the Xfce graphical environment, and not, for example, GNOME, is designed for systems with not the most sophisticated "iron". Perhaps Xubuntu Minimal is aimed at specific devices with very small drives.
The first release of Xubuntu Minimal will be based on Ubuntu 23.04. It is not yet known when the official launch will take place.
