CES 2023

Manufacturer Ring demonstrated the Always Home Cam drone for home patrols when homeowners are away

In late 2020, Ring announced the Always Home Cam autonomous mini-drone, which is being developed to patrol private homes and their surroundings in the absence of owners. At the ongoing CES 2023 in Las Vegas, the company held a demonstration of the promising model for the first time, although the final launch date has yet to be announced.

The complete kit, including the docking station, looks more like a tabletop kitchen gadget than a security drone. It turned out to be slightly larger than what was previously shown in the Ring demo video, although the model is not similar to any of the popular drones on the market.

The Ring team has given some details about the device, in particular that each floor will be patrolled by a separate copy. First of all, we are talking about the first floor.

Training will take place quite unusually - the owner will “show” the route of the UAV, bypassing the house and its surroundings with a drone in hand, after which he will remember exactly where to fly and will control the house by making a series of sorties. It will be possible to define different routes as well as individual waypoints – for example, check that the stove is off and that the tailgate is closed.

If it seems to the owner that something is wrong in the controlled area, he can make the drone hover in one place and rotate around its axis to inspect the entire nearby area.

It is known that they did not start developing a special application for the new model – the functions will be available in the existing Ring software, in any case, when the new product goes on sale. However, the company does not disclose its plans and launch dates, the price of the device will also be announced later. The prototype demonstration at the exhibition indirectly testifies to the high degree of readiness of the Always Home Cam.
