APPLE

Third-generation Apple Pencil will be able to copy the surface texture and color of objects

As is known, Steve Jobs, the former Apple pilot and one of the greatest visionaries of all time, was fundamentally against touch pens. When he presented the first iPhone, whose screen was adapted for the fingers, he did not forget to ask ironically who still needs a stylus. According to Jobs, nobody wanted a touch pen, but in 2015 Apple introduced one after all. And it didn't stop with just him.

Apple Pencil is not just an ordinary pen... After the first generation, launched in 2015 and intended for use with the iPad Pro tablet, Apple has introduced the second generation. It arrived after three years, i.e. 2018, and the fact is that the Pencil touch stylus is miles away from the regular stylus that Jobs has railed against in the past.

The second generation has been with us for over four years and has significantly outlived its usefulness; therefore, it is not surprising that the third generation is slowly being prepared. Work on the new Pencil touch stylus from Apple workshops revealed on Apple's patent server through patent proposal number 20220413636 A1.

A touch pen at the highest level... The aforementioned patent proposal concerns an optical sensor that would allow a pencil to copy the texture and color of the surface of objects. The pencil must be able to send this data wirelessly to the laptop/tablet so it can be used with your desired drawing program.

Based on these patents created on the Yanko Project website the design of the third generation Apple Pencil, and the fact is that the apple giant has already applied for several interesting patents in the past. For example, in 2021 he received a patent for replaceable tips, where there were several types of tips and from them the stylus acquired new functions.

When will we expect?...Unfortunately, nothing is known about the possible debut date, and it is quite possible that the third generation Apple Pencil will not arrive until the next iPad Pro. It should be released in 2024 and will be the first iPad with an OLED screen, so the arrival of a new generation of stylus with much more extensive features makes a lot of sense. We'll see how things play out in the end.
