Ming-Chi Kuo: MacBook will hit the market with OLED screen in late 2024

Ming-Chi Kuo recently posted a series of tweets indicating that Apple plans to release its first MacBook with an OLED display in late 2024.

The analyst pointed out that OLED technology for laptops will allow Apple to design a thinner and much lighter MacBook.

Current MacBook models have displays made from LCD panels, including the MacBook Pro line with mini-LED technology. The adoption of OLED panels will give a huge leap in quality with purer blacks, higher contrast and longer battery life.

The first time Apple used OLED technology in its products was with the launch of the Apple Watch. Shortly thereafter, the Cupertino company expanded its implementation on its iPhone.

Now it's the turn of the iPad and the MacBook. In fact, we had already seen similar rumors circulating about the adoption of OLED. In late 2022, we learned that Apple was planning to release two iPad Pro models and a MacBook Air with OLED screens in 2024.

Today's leak from Ming-Chi Kuo corroborates the news, although this time he did not specify whether the adoption of OLED technology will reach the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro.

“Samsung Display plans to increase shipments of notebook OLED panels, targeting 70% year-over-year growth and shipping 6-7 million units by 2023.”-Ming-Chi Kuo

The transition to OLED screens on iPad and Mac devices will continue to happen gradually over the next few years, and many features of each product will change completely.

“Compared to mini-LED, OLED notebooks have the advantage of being thinner and lighter and offering more diversity in design options such as folding, which made Apple plan to launch its OLED MacBook in late 2024 early on. ”-Ming-Chi Kuo
