Xiaomi has officially revealed MIUI 14, the next version of the user interface, which will soon be available for Xiaomi, Mi, Redmi and Poco smartphone and tablet users. The updated custom shell was shown at a special event in China, at which the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro smartphones were also presented.
According to Xiaomi, different versions of the MIUI user interface have a total of more than 564 million monthly active users. In MIUI 14, developers have implemented a number of interesting innovations aimed, among other things, at improving performance. First of all, we note that after installation, the firmware takes up 13.09 GB of space in the device's memory, which, according to the developers, is much less compared to competing solutions.
In addition, the operating system itself requires only 3.3 GB of RAM, which is also a significant step towards saving resources. In addition, the number of pre-installed applications that the user cannot remove by himself has been reduced. Now there are only eight: "Camera", "Settings", "Phone", Mi Store, "Messages", "Browser", "Contacts" and "Explorer". There are more options for managing app data, as well as the ability to only keep a copy of duplicate files, a tool for zipping unused apps, and improved notification management.
MIUI 14 is based on a new engine that interacts with the core of Android and opens up a number of additional opportunities for app developers. According to Xiaomi, the new shell allows the system to work much faster and smoother, and applications consume 22% less energy. Also reported is an increase in the speed of detecting and connecting headphones to a smartphone (by 50%) and the ability to use the tablet as an additional monitor for a laptop.
As for visual changes, after installing MIUI 14, users will be able to individually change the size of application icons. Each individual icon can be one of four sizes, which will make the desktop look more interesting. In addition, it will be possible to place a virtual pet or a flower on the main screen, which should improve the user's mood during the day.
According to reports, MIUI 14 will be the first to receive the new Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro smartphones. In January next year, the shell will go to older devices such as Xiaomi 12S Ultra, Xiaomi 12S Pro, Xiaomi 12S, Xiaomi 12 Pro, Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition, Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi MIX Fold 2, Redmi K50 Pro, Redmi K50 Extreme Edition, Redmi K50 Gaming Edition, Redmi K50. In April, MIUI 14 will appear on Mi Pad 5 Pro 12.4, Mi Pad 5 Pro 5G, Mi Pad 5 Pro, Mi Pad 5 and Redmi Pad tablets.
