Kone Air: the brand's new mouse with interesting functions hits the market on November 14
The multi-button newcomer to the Kone product family looks sophisticated, but still has room for improvement in two areas.
Roccat, which operates under the Turtle Beach umbrella, is gearing up to release another wireless mouse, which will launch on November 14th as the latest member of the family tree of Kone series devices.
The already pre-ordered Kone Air has 17 functions that can be programmed on its 9 buttons thanks to Easy-Shift duplicator technology, and inside it is a 50 gs Owl Eye 19K sensor with an adjustable LoD that varies from 50 to 19,000 cpi, which results in one of today's leading solutions, the PixArt PAW3370.
The strictly right-handed rodent with single-profile internal memory cannot be considered small or thin as its length of 132 mm, width of 82 mm and height of 43 mm are combined with a weight of 96 grams. This in itself is far from being little, however, the value is for an empty state, as the device obtains the necessary cocoa for the operation of one or two batteries of AA format pencils.
The manufacturer provides 119 grams with one battery (so with two, the ceiling would be 142, but that's more than scary), but we have a trick for our readers: with a single Energizer Ultimate Lithium AAA micropen, plus a crumpled cookie with aluminum foil placed there for contact, about 103, we can get away with 5 grams. The negative effect of this is that the operating time of up to 800 hours when fully charged is significantly reduced, but we think the simplicity is worth striving for.
The elementary implementation has another drawback, regardless of what we're going to use; the two compartments are parallel to the edge of the lid, so if we want to put only one inside, we must make our new product heavy on the side in one direction. We would consider a much better solution if these compartments were placed one below the other, perpendicular to the palm rest, as using the above would leave the center of mass approximately in the middle.
Top clicks have received “100 million” Titan Optical optomechanical switches, and cordless operation is possible with a 2.4GHz radio frequency and Bluetooth 5.1 connection (the 800-hour power reserve mentioned above likely applies to the last).
