One of the sources published a list of smartphones that will receive the new high-performance flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor by the end of the year. This chip should provide an increase in energy efficiency and performance, which will affect the capabilities of smartphone cameras. In particular, it will allow working with matrices of a larger optical format (for example, inch).
The following devices will receive the new chip: Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Pro, Motorola X40 (in the global market it will be called Motorola Edge 40 Pro), iQOO 11, iQOO 11 Pro and Vivo X90 Pro.
Xiaomi 13 and Motorola X40 smartphones could be presented before the end of November. And the rest of the listed models - as early as December 2022.
It follows from the rendering that the future novelty will be equipped with a 5G module and three cameras on the main unit. The Leica marking confirms that the collaboration between the companies, which began with the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, continues. By the way, this smartphone at the time of the announcement ranked fifth in the DxOMark rating. It currently occupies only the tenth row of the ranking, despite the presence of an inch matrix. The first place belongs to the new Google Pixel 7 Pro.
In early 2023, a whole series of new products will be launched in the flagship smartphone segment with advanced cameras and other features. Devices will be presented: Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra, OPPO Find X6 Pro, Realme GT 4, OnePlus 11 and Redmi K60 Gaming. All of them, according to the source, will receive the flagship mobile processor of the new generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
One of the sources gave details about the new chip. It will receive a four-cluster layout according to the 1+2+2+3 scheme. In addition, the processor will include a super-powerful Cortex-X3 core (Makalu-Elp), two dual-core clusters based on the Cortex-A720 (Makalu ) and A710 (Matterhorn), respectively, as well as three low-power Cortex-A510 (Klein-R1) cores. Graphics processing will be done by the Adreno 740 GPU.
Qualcomm has previously stated that it plans to create a mobile processor that can compete with the Apple M2. The announcement of such a productive chip, which could potentially match the processing power of smartphones and laptops, is expected in 2023.
